Newly formed political party, Julie Matheson for Western Australia spokesperson Julie Matheson, has thrown her support behind the residents of Fremantle announcing she will run as a candidate for the seat of Fremantle in the upcoming State election on a platform to protect Fremantle heritage against the “in-fill at any cost” threat which exists at the present time.
“The future of Fremantle is becoming the cruise ship destination capital of Australia, not as a State Government target for infill costing Fremantle its heritage and its tourism potential. Cruise ship tourists will come to Fremantle because of its unique heritage and as a welcoming port to Perth and beyond. Many jobs will come from tourism for Fremantle creating an employment hub.”
“If Western Australia gets behind this plan for Fremantle and the port as a heritage and tourist precinct, there will be no need for the Development Assessment Panels (DAP), the Trojan horse for development at any cost, and no need for container and sheep ships at Fremantle. These ships will be moved to Kwinana as part of its plans to be an industrial centre and port.”
Julie Matheson for Western Australia is seeking backing from residents, industry, farmers and tourism to support this plan for Fremantle at the upcoming State election on 11 March 2017.
