Julie Matheson was born and raised in the Pilbara town of Port Hedland, Western Australia.
From an early age she supported her father Colin Matheson in his role as a Shire Councillor from 1971 to 1985, and as he pioneered the development of football in the Pilbara.
The Town of Port Hedland honoured the memory of Colin Matheson by naming the Port Hedland football oval and Matheson Drive after him.
Football games are played for the C P Matheson shield and Fairest and Best Reserve’s player of the year.
Julie has continued in her father’s footsteps to support the Pilbara by providing consulting services to Aboriginal Trustees and their members to help them benefit from mining.
Julie is also a property owner and ratepayer with the City of Karratha.
